• Are You Called to Go or to Send?

Welcome back to week 3 of missions ministry with Pastor Mike! To listen to today’s Deeper Devo click HERE. Or feel free to check out my latest Revive Our Hearts post: The Impact of Being in God’s Word  “I just feel like with so many needs here, it’s hard for me to focus on the needs far away.” That’s how a conversation with a Pastor friend of mine started when I asked him what he thought about missions. He went on: “I definitely believe missions is important. It’s just not something I’m personally passionate about.” I’ve had this conversation several times throughout my ministry career. In fact, I used to…

  • Who Are the True Christians?

To listen to today’s Deeper Devo click HERE. Devotional Scripture: Mark 3:22-30 Key Verse: “Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin.” Mark 3:28-29 Did you read the key verse today? If not, go ahead, I’m in no rush. Verse 29 is a doozy. “But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin.” Those are some strong words by Jesus. Words that may embark fear in your heart. Is there a sin that won’t…

  • Getting Out of Our Christian Comfy Pants

To listen to today’s Deeper Devo click HERE. Devotional Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-13 Key Verse: “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Ephesians 6:10-11 When my youngest was four and it was that time of year when you pick apples and carve pumpkins (and face the annual beast I like to call harvest), I did what it looked like everybody on social media was doing and took my kids to the pumpkin patch. When side note, it would have been much easier and cheaper to…

  • Are You Smart or Wise?

To listen to today’s Deeper Devo click HERE. You can also listen by searching Deeper Devos on iTunes. Devotional Scripture: Ephesians 5:15-17 Key Verse: “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise.” Ephesians 5:15 I’m not sure, but I’m beginning to wonder if I got the short end of the stick when it comes to brains in my family. I have two older brothers. (Shout out to all the babies out there.) One brother recently built an airplane. As in a-i-r-p-l-a-n-e. You know, one of those things you ride in that has wings and flies you wherever your heart desires. He built one. And it works.…

  • Loving Yourself More Is Not the Answer It’s the Decoy

To listen to today’s Deeper Devo click HERE. Key Verse: “Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” Matthew 16:24-25 There is a trend right now, especially in Christian literature (if you can call it that), of self-focus. Do what makes you happy. Be who you want to be. Find yourself. Let yourself shine forth. Take care of yourself first and foremost. (Like when an oxygen mask drops in an airplane. Which I get –…

  • Living The Best Life Now

To listen to today’s Deeper Devo click HERE. Devotional Scripture: Ephesians 3:14-21 Key Verse: “That according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being.”  Ephesians 3:16 At this point in our study I think it’s safe to say the Apostle Paul loves the church, right? In particular, the Ephesian church. I don’t think he would have written this letter otherwise. I mean let’s think back to the beginning where Paul says he doesn’t cease to give thanks for them (Eph. 1:16). He cares for these people. So much so in today’s verses, he’s praying for them…

  • We Were Made to Work and I Don’t Mean From Eight to Five

To listen to today’s Deeper Devo click HERE. Devotional Scripture: Ephesians 2:8-10 Key Verse: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 An article from Time.com says unemployment is a fate worse than death. And the 2017 World Happiness Report goes so far as to say unemployment is destructive to a person’s well-being. (Link to article.) Would you agree? I think it goes without saying working instills purpose and a sense of value in a person. My closest testimony to that end of the spectrum came in 2006. Newly married and newly pregnant, with a…

  • Go Ahead and Say It

No matter what happens my friend, the blessings of saying it, will always and forever far outweigh the worldly benefits of staying quiet. So say it. Say you’re a Christian.

  • Sometimes We Need to Let Go

Devo Scripture: Genesis 13 Key Verse: “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked…but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.” Ps. 1:1-2 We cling to things…don’t we? Tight. Like that dream, that child, that house, that job, that plan, that money is the one thing that will make us happy. The one thing. So we pray. We take it to God and we beg him for it. Please LORD, please just this once answer my prayer the way I want you to. Or we fight for it. At the risk of losing everything…we…
