A Prayer for Our Nation

My gracious God and Father, holy are you Lord. There is none like you; for you alone are God. You made the earth and created man on it (Is. 45:12). You form light and create darkness. You make well-being and create calamity; you are the Lord who does all these things (Is. 45:7).

You are God and there is no other.

Oh God help us. The LORD of Hosts is your name. You are the righteous God and Savior, and you are my redeemer. Our nation is under siege; ruthless men seek our destruction, and righteousness is under attack. Godly character is seen as prejudice. To call sin a sin is documented as intolerance. But right and wrong still exist in this world, and it’s you who’s declares it.

And yet, “our courts oppose the righteous, and justice is nowhere to be found. Trust stumbles in the streets, and honesty has been outlawed. Yes, truth is gone, and anyone who renounces evil is attacked” (Is. 59:14-15; NLT). But your Word prevails! Righteousness will not be cast aside forever. Those who believe they can strive with God and get away with it are deluded. “Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God” (Ps. 62:11).

You are God and there is no other.

Father, when I look around it appears to me as though evil is winning, but I know the victory is yours. Woe to him who rejects the Lord; woe to him who does not bow the knee. “For you will render to a man according to his work” (Ps. 62:12). Father, it’s you alone who can break through the bonds of evil. Tie the hands of evil men, silence the boastful, and reveal their schemes. “Let the lying lips be mute, which speak insolently against the righteous in pride and contempt” (Ps. 31:18).

Oh Lord, please, let truth prevail. Have mercy on your people and your children whom you have called by your name. You are our help and our deliverer, just as you have always been. Your steadfast love is never-ending, providing hope and assurance to every generation. I know you are not done with us for your Spirit is still at work.

You are God and there is no other.

Father, it’s you alone who can open the eyes of the blind, so please, open the eyes of those who cannot recognize the truth. Reveal yourself to the next generation. Call the young and old alike. Let not biblical values die with the elderly. Let not marriage and family as you have prescribed be maligned and manipulated. Let not men cease to be men and women cease to be women.

Raise up godly leaders who believe in your name and live your word and refuse to put their personal agendas first. Sabotage the plans of the wicked; may they not squander the freedom so many have died for. Open the hearts of your people God, and then open the hearts of all who are not your people. Remind us of truth, and convict those who don’t know the truth. We cry out to you!

You are God and there is no other.

Oh Lord forgive us for our insatiable pride. Who are we to think we can live or breathe or walk these earthbound dusty roads without following you? Who are we to think our prosperity is our own doing? Who are we to think we’re in control? We are nothing without you. We have no control but that which you allow, and no prosperity except that which you give.

All the earth is yours, oh Lord, and all creation exists for your glory. Honor and praise are yours forever. I confess my lack of diligence Father. Forgive me for not reflecting your character in all that I do. Forgive me for not speaking more boldly and sharing the gospel and declaring your excellencies no matter what I do or where I go. Make me salt and light. Make me a messenger of good news. Make me wise and ready and willing to answer in the name of Jesus Christ.

You are God and there is no other.

Oh Lord, I lift the church before you. Unify us as the body of Christ with one purpose and one mind for your glory alone. Light a fire among your people. Consume us with your desires. Let us not be distracted in this haphazard world that offers us nothing compared to eternity in heaven with you. Fill us with faith, strengthen those who are weak, comfort the afflicted, convict us of sin, and guide us in truth.

Empower us by your Spirit that dwells within us, so that Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith—that we, “being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge” (Eph. 3:17-19), so that we can be filled to overflowing with your fullness, and revival can purge the land. May it be your kingdom that comes and your will that is done.

You are God and there is no other.

Lord help us not to cower in fear but to hold fast in faith. Neither let us fall asleep to the enemy’s dismantling of holiness. Come Lord Jesus and work among this land, work among your people, and work among those who are not. You have promised to never leave us or forsake us (Heb. 13:5), and I know you keep all of your promises (Josh. 23:14). Be a rock among your people, and a rock of stumbling among those who are not.

Protect us from the evil one. Protect us from the vile schemes of man. Rise up oh God that we might see your awesome glory; for who can stand against wickedness? It is the LORD our God who can. “Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us” (Ps. 62:8). This I declare and this I believe; for the Lord is God and there is no other.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.

Feel free to share. I’d love it if we could pray this prayer together.
